Fairy Nook

Fairy Nook

In Florida I meet Randal, a friendly guy who tells me he's created an entire Fairy village next to his home in the forest NW of Naples. He shows me photos of it and it looks playful and kind of magical so I head out to see it for myself.

It's an incredible site! Maybe 20 little structures have been made to blend into the natural surroundings which already looks surreal, with moss covering half of it. He had built the village for his young nieces and nephews who would then be enthralled by the stories Randal spun. He had an entire narrative about the comings and goings of the various colorful characters who populated his village.

In Randal's tale, the fairy house I photographed is the parsonage to the church. In the garden of the church several religions are represented.

Nikki and I showed up with my gear the next day to set up in the late afternoon, and waited for nightfall. As the sun set, lights began popping on throughout the village - lights Randal had placed, creating yet another layer of fantasy to this magical place.

Light Paintings series

I sometimes fantasize that with the snap of a finger, I can escape reality ... in a moment, be transported to a dream world free of life's demands, a child's playground where magic exists and all is right with the world. My Light Paintings are that portal. Through them I can transcend reality and escape into these beautiful, vibrant yet peaceful realms.

Although there is some digital manipulation in this series, the unusual lighting and surreal quality in the Light Painting series is achieved by using colored lights during long exposures. They are not digital effects.
