Escape Route
A short behind-the-scenes video is available here.
Escape Route was a feel-good image from the start. I was staying near the small, pretty town of Stuart, Florida and had rented a scooter to explore the area and maybe find a place to shoot at night.
All day I rode along the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, visiting small quaint towns in the area. I eventually made my way to the town of Jensen Beach.
I found the pier in Jensen Beach Park, a popular spot for swimming, cooking out and boating.I looked down the little dock and was immediately taken back to my youth, to hot summer days swimming in lakes, running and jumping off piers. I knew right then I'd be back with my camera.
The next day I arrived with my gear, and on a clear warm night, I lit up the pier and brought her into my world.
Light Paintings series
I sometimes fantasize that with the snap of a finger, I can escape reality ... in a moment, be transported to a dream world free of life's demands, a child's playground where magic exists and all is right with the world. My Light Paintings are that portal. Through them I can transcend reality and escape into these beautiful, vibrant yet peaceful realms.

Although there is some digital manipulation in this series, the unusual lighting and surreal quality in the Light Painting series is achieved by using colored lights during long exposures. They are not digital effects.
