Alleys & Ruins no. 148, Dive Bar (2015, Chicago, IL, 11pm)
This little corner appeared to be the watering hole for a number of locals, thus the name. It could have also been called Couch 2.0, after Alley 147’s couch, but someone had torched the love seat here so I don’t think it was officially a couch any more.
Danny Wolverton (aka “Special Head” of Americas Got Talent fame) was with me and recorded the whole exploration and shoot. He was on a cross county tour, documenting unusual art, artists and spaces, and I guess I qualified. You can watch me lighting Dive Bar in the excellent video Special Head produced

And now a poem....
Of furniture, lately abandoned
A loveseat leans against a chain-link fence.
It's the color of putty, the color of blood.
Its cushions are stained with sex and shit.
It stinks of menthol smokes and stale piss.
In silence, it sinks and sags, slouches and slumps.
Once, it towered atop a Turkish rug.
The shimmering centerpiece in a queen's quarters.
One day it was the throne of a calf
and the next it was the seat of veal.
Now, nobody dances the Loveseat Quadrille.
