Alleys & Ruins no. 132, Cornucopia (2010, Atlanta, GA, 11pm)

When I set up to shoot this looming structure, I knew some acrobatics would be required. Inside the gaping hole overhead it was pitch black, and to get the shot I wanted, I needed to bring lighting inside, which meant climbing up and into it. But the street was busy with cars, and I didn't want to be mistaken for a terrorist, let alone get caught trespassing, so I had my friends look for a break in the traffic, at which point I climbed up as fast as I could, with a flash and some yellow gels jammed into my coat pocket. Once inside I had to be careful not to fall through the rusted floor.

After doing my lighting, I waited again for a break in traffic to climb down quickly. It worked out so well, I did it a second time! The breaks in the star streaks occurred when cars would drive by. My friend would cover the lens with black velvet to avoid light streaks and other lighting problems.
