Bicycle Zen

Bicycle Zen

A short behind-the-scenes video is available here.

The bicycle was shot in small town Zanesville, Ohio. After a long fruitless day of searching for something to shoot, I call my wife Nikki to tell her I'm giving up.  In mid sentence, I stop talking... I notice that across the street, there's an old and dusty bike that someone has mounted to a wall.

It's bursting with character and I can just imagine the epic adventures its had in its long and bumpy life. I recall the many happy hours and days of my youth, peddling like a madman atop my bike.

It's a beautiful thing to look at despite being quite drab and colorless. Years of dust, and a hot sun bleaching out its color have made it an almost monochrome gray. But I just happen to have a way to change that. I tell Nikki, I think I've found something!

Light Paintings series

I sometimes fantasize that with the snap of a finger, I can escape reality ... in a moment, be transported to a dream world free of life's demands, a child's playground where magic exists and all is right with the world. My Light Paintings are that portal. Through them I can transcend reality and escape into these beautiful, vibrant yet peaceful realms.

Although there is some digital manipulation in this series, the unusual lighting and surreal quality in the Light Painting series is achieved by using colored lights during long exposures. They are not digital effects.
