A Twilight Welcome
"A Twilight Welcome" was more than two years in the making.
I first spot the garden in August 2022, just past peak bloom. But I can see what it might become under the right light. I contact the owner and we agreed I'll return the following July.
A year later, I'm back, but the garden is completely different. The plantings are off and I know it won't work. I leave wondering if this shot will ever happen.
Another year passes. I return to find the garden more lush and beautiful than I could have imagined. Nikki and I set up as the sun sets and I spend a quiet evening lighting up the garden. When we finally wrap, I know I have something good.
Then with the image nearly finished - just waiting to be cleaned up - my book takes over my life. My days and nights are consumed by this huge project and "Twilight" simply has to wait. But eventually I have to come up for air, if only briefly. When I do, I think: just finish the damn thing!
So after two years of delayed shooting, and many months waiting for me to pay more attention to it ...
