A Twilight Welcome
"A Twilight Welcome" was more than two years in the making.
I first spotted the garden in August 2023, just past peak bloom. But I could see what it might become under the right light. I contacted the owner and we agreed I'd return the following July.
A year later, I'm back, but the garden isn't ready. The plantings are off and I know it won't work. I leave wondering if this shot will ever happen.
Another year passes. July 2024. I return to find the garden more lush and beautiful than I could have imagined. Nikki and I set up as the sun sets and I spend a quiet evening lighting up the garden. When we finally wrap, I know I have something good.
That was five months ago. The image was nearly finished, just waiting to be cleaned up, but my book had taken over my life. My days and nights were consumed by this huge project and "Twilight" simply had to wait. But eventually I had to come up for air, and when I did, I thought: finish the damn thing!
So after two years of patience, one failed attempt, and finally one perfect night...

Light Paintings series
I sometimes fantasize that with the snap of a finger, I can escape reality ... in a moment, be transported to a dream world free of life's demands, a child's playground where magic exists and all is right with the world.My Light Paintings are that portal. Through them I can transcend reality and escape into these beautiful, vibrant yet peaceful realms.

Although there is some digital manipulation in this series, the unusual lighting and surreal quality in the Light Painting series is achieved by using colored lights during long exposures. They are not digital effects.
