Process.
I create my photographs at night, using handheld colored lights during long exposures to illuminate and transform typically drab or overlooked scenes. Dressed in black and constantly in motion, I remain invisible to the camera, allowing the light alone to shape the image. Through this process, I reimagine gritty or ordinary environments — whether on location, or using sets I've built in the studio — into vibrant, otherworldly spaces filled with mystery and wonder.
Statement.
I sometimes fantasize that with the snap of a finger, I can escape reality— in a moment, be transported to a dream world free of life's demands, a child's playground where magic is real and all is right with the world.
My Light Paintings are that portal. Through them I can transcend reality and escape into these beautiful, vibrant yet peaceful realms.
About.
The Transformative Power of Light and Color

Two bodies of work.
I've lit two distinct types of locations. The Alleys & Ruins series began in 1991 when I started obsessively exploring dark - and often dangerous - city corners with a 50 year old Hasselblad film camera and a couple of lights. This is where I developed my lighting techniques.
This series continues to this day, but in 2017 I decided to also bring my camera to more familiar, yet often very mundane locations. This series is called the Light Paintings series (even though the Alleys & Ruins are also painted with light)
