Shangri-La

Because I work weekends, Monday is my day off. When I lived in Ann Arbor a friend introduced me to TC’s bar in the scraggly neighboring town of Ypsilanti. TC’s was and is a dive bar with dozens of regulars. Monday nights, they packed them in, opening the stage to anyone who wanted to play.  This sounded all too good, so one Monday night I dropped in with my guitar, got on the stage and sang some songs. From then on, TC’s became my Shangri-La and I became one more of its regulars, often closing the place. Last night I dropped by and hung out with a few of my old friends.

Behind the stage is the back door, visible in Alleys & Fire Escapes, no. 74  -  “TC’s Speakeasy”

Some of my friends, Ben Lorenz (drummer extraordinaire) and Tim Nolan (bassist/photographer), who’s getting the finger… long story.
