Saturday, Pam and I took a long overdue first trip up the Pacific coast of the San Francisco Peninsula. On the Bay side, there’s a densely populated urban world; on the tip is San Francisco… and on the Pacific side, its an entirely different scene. It is so extremely pastoral, I felt I was hundreds of miles away. Then I’d look at the mountains to the east (which make access to this area difficult), knowing that just a few miles away, traffic jams and road rage and blaring car horns were the norm.
At the end of the peninsula… back in San Francisco.

This is Pigeon Point Lighthouse on the San Mateo County coast. Its 130 years old and has a hostel. Apparently there’s lots of whale watching from there.
