Road Rage in LA

September 11th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Tonight I leave for San Diego for Artwalk on the Bay - an 8-10 hr drive from my home. I have to go through LA on my way there; the typically horrible LA traffic will determine how long my drive is.
Road Rage in LA is a reality. Every time I’ve driven in/around/through the city, I’ve seen it. […]

the Redwalls

August 10th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I wish I had my digital camera, so I could throw up some pictures when I have nothing to say… like now…
Ok, one little thing… I went to the Chicago Westfest music festival last night with my friend Neil. The headliner was a band called the Redwalls who I thought were brilliant (they sound much […]

Watching movies

August 7th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Its time to hit the road again… after more than a month with hardly a minute’s break, yearning for a day off, I get three in a row in Ann Arbor, MI where I have many friends. Except I don’t know what to do with this time off, and so for the most part I end […]

WALL-E

July 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I saw WALL-E last night. Fantastic!!  The film is great on so many levels, but one in particular that relates to my art. The film is set in an apocalyptic future where humans have had to escape an Earth that they (we) have made unlivable. The opening scenes (which then run through half the movie) blew […]

The Mississippi

June 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

I’m now in St. Louis. The short stop-over flight from Des Moines went along the Mississippi River for most of the way, and along the path of its recent disasterous flooding. It was like looking at one long, sad car accident… entire towns, houses, industrial districts… all buried to the brim in the Mississippi water.
Shot from the […]

Dave Chappelle

June 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Dave Chappelle was on my flight back home yesterday. He is a comic genius who seemed to suffer a breakdown at the peak of his career in 2005. In the middle of the third season of his fantastic and groundbreaking show, Chappelle’s Show on Comedy Central, he stunned his fans and the network by walking out, […]

Tetes a Claques

May 14th, 2008 · No Comments

If you grew up in Quebec, this is insanely funny. But if you grew up in Quebec, you already know about Tetes-a-claques. There’s a new web episode every week, which is great because I laugh my head off every time - and it gives me a little fix of my old culture.
Even if you don’t […]

Kansas City

May 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Kansas City is one of the country’s best-kept secrets. Its at an interesting crossroad: its where the rust belt ends, meeting up where southern hospitality begins. So its an old gritty city with history and beautiful architecture like any mid-west or eastern city, but the people speak “southern,” and they are just as friendly as […]
