It’s Nature… watch your back!!

August 8th, 2008 · No Comments

A small storm accompanied me on part of my trip to Chicago last night.
On my way to Ann Arbor from Minneapolis a few days ago, a massive storm gathered on the horizon as I drove down I-94. Lightning strikes were occurring more than once per second - I don’t think I’d ever seen that before. The sky […]

My stupid-ass digital camera

July 8th, 2008 · No Comments

I got back home this morning… drove all day and night from Denver, with Pam sharing the driving… Now I have today and part of tomorrow to do everything I can’t do on the road.
I fly to Des Moines tomorrow at midnight (with an armful of artwork) to get my van and drive to Chicago for the […]

Crazy freakin weather

June 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Iowa has had its share of bad weather in recent weeks, with rain storms flooding half the state. Hopefully the people here are at the tail end of it. But if the last few days here are any evidence, bad things could still be on their way. My booth is nailed down to the pavement with […]

Mother Nature can be a real bitch

June 27th, 2008 · No Comments

A severe storm alert has been announced by the Des Moines Police. Headed our way, in 30 minutes, is a 70 miles/hr hail storm. A large mass of scary looking black clouds are in the horizon, slowly marching toward us.  All the artists have closed down, and tied down as much as possible. I too have done […]

The Mississippi

June 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

I’m now in St. Louis. The short stop-over flight from Des Moines went along the Mississippi River for most of the way, and along the path of its recent disasterous flooding. It was like looking at one long, sad car accident… entire towns, houses, industrial districts… all buried to the brim in the Mississippi water.
Shot from the […]

Batman and Agfa-robin

June 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

This is one of the last shots I ever did with my all-time favorite film: Agfa Ultra. Of course it died from neglect. Actually the whole company died…  it went bankrupt several years ago… one more victim of the digital tidal wave.  I had heard rumors of the film’s demise, but the company’s techies told me […]

Chicago Blues Festival

June 6th, 2008 · No Comments

The Chicago Blues Festival is the city’s largest music festival, and is of course an appropriate festival for the City of Blues. Chicago became a mecca for blues after musicians from the Mississippi delta migrated there generations ago looking for a better life.
I went there this evening with my friends. What a stunning setting!! The […]

The Gangsters of Compton, CA

May 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments

This is one of the two shots from my adrenalin-fueled shoot in a Compton alley two months ago. The other shot will be ready someday before the end of time. (Hopefully sooner, because its also a good shot)
This was the second of the two that night and was done with the help of Jorge, a […]

Yesterday I shipped a piece (a 24×30 print of Steps III) to the University of Richmond Museum in Richmond, Virginia. The piece was selected for their permanent collection which is yabba dabba doo with me!!
And tomorrow morning I’m off to Ann Arbor, MI once again for a show in Indianapolis and a far more reasonable 4-hour drive.  […]

Alley Book with Habitat for Humanity!

May 3rd, 2008 · 4 Comments

I slept in the van last night. Except for the high winds, I had a good sleep. Staring out the back windows, they became a surreal canvas of swaying trees in the gusty night. Then I had lovely visions of my booth and all my art going up like in the Wizard of Oz (I […]
