Dismas: inspired trillions, 2014
Dismas is the thief who inspired trillions. The bug world has been in an uproar since Dismas was crucified for apparently stealing cotton to keep her newly laid eggs warm. Mass demonstrations have erupted; they are calling it the Bug Spring… Those crazy glam bugs are always up to something!
I shot Dismas recently while a film crew from the art magazine NewCity was shooting a short documentary about my Glam Bugs series. It should be released within a month, and of course I’ll post it.
Below is the set up. What you can’t see is all the light painting I did with a very small gelled flashlight – stuff I learned to do on a much larger scale shooting the Alleys and Ruins. And of course, Dismas was shot with my trusted 50-year-old Hasselblad film camera.
I’m also excited about the many new images I’ll be releasing in the coming months! …many from both the Alleys & Ruins and Crystal series.

The other group show I’m in, Fragile Relations: Art, Nature and Environment, has been touring the Illinois State Museum’s network of galleries since Oct 2012, when it opened in the Chicago Gallery. It was then at the Lockport Gallery from May 25 – October 25, 2013, and now opens at the main
Alley 134, Dub Stop, 2010, Chicago, IL, 88″X110″
museum gallery, in Springfield. The last stop will be the Southern Illinois Art Gallery in 2015.
Fragile Relations highlights the work of fourteen Illinois artists who are inspired by nature and the environment and show diverse ways of perceiving and experiencing the world.
I’m exhibiting two 32X40 Alleys & Ruins, three 32X40 Glam Bug pieces, and an 8×10 foot print of Alley 134, Dub Stop. That image is also being used in all the promotional material and will be the first piece people see when entering the gallery. Unfortunately I can’t be attend the reception.

I’m developing an Alleys and Ruins book with author and reporter J. Michael Welton, who has written about art, architecture and design for The New York Times, Interior Design and The Washington Post. He also writes and edits the online magazine Architects + Artisans.
In this digital age, there are new obstacles to publishing a real paper book, but we believe that an Alleys and Ruins coffee table book, with big lush photos on quality paper would look fantastic and would be a big hit!
To push this ahead, in today’s day and age, we need sponsors. I’ll be putting a proposal together for anyone interested on how you can help get this published, while getting a lot back in return.
More on this later, but feel free to email me with questions, ideas …. a sponsorship!! :D
